About NTA UGC NET International and Area Studies Exam

UGC NET Notification 2023 Out : UGC NET December 2023 notification was released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on 30 September 2023. Every year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the UGC NET examination twice to determine eligibility for Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship or both for Indian universities and colleges.The online application process for UGC NET 2023 has started on 30th September 2023 and interested and eligible candidates can apply online before 28th October 2023 at 05:00 PM. NTA UGC NET exam is conducted twice every year in the month of June and December. However, there is a provision to conduct UGC NET exam twice a year. A session of UGC NET 2023 (December 2023) will be conducted by the National Eligibility Authority (NTA) for the recruitment of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellow (JRF). Universities and colleges.

NTA UGC NET International and Area Studies Eligibility

You must check the UGC NET Eligibility Criteria for International and Area Studies before filling the online Application Form. 

You should meet all essential criteria as mentioned in Educational Qualification & Age Limit.

Educational Qualification 
  • You have to complete Post-Graduation in International and Area Studies or another equivalent subject.
  • If you are belonging to General Category, then you have to secure 55% in International and Area Studies or equivalent subject, and for ST/SC/OBC/PWD/Transgenders, the percentage criteria are 50%.

Age Limit 
  • For UGC NET International and Area Studies JRF: 30 Years for General Category & Up to 5 Years of Age Relaxation in Other Categories.
  • For UGC NET International and Area Studies Lectureship: No Upper Age Limit for NET Exam 2022 International and Area Studies Lectureship.

NTA UGC NET International and Area Studies Syllabus

UGC NET International and Area Studies Syllabus lets you know about the topics covered in the exam. You should know that the UGC NET International and Area Studies exam is divided into two parts, i.e., UGC NET Paper 1 & Paper 2. 

UGC NET Paper 1 syllabus is common for all candidates, but paper 2 is based on International and Area Studies.

  • Paper-I Syllabus covers teaching and reasoning ability, research aptitude, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.

Syllabus for Paper 2

The University Grants Commission (UGC) NET revised its syllabus for UGC NET in International and Area Studies in June 2019 and the same syllabus will be applicable for the upcoming UGC NET / JRF and SET or SLET examination. 


NTA UGC NET International and Area Studies Exam Pattern

UGC NET Exam is a computer-based test having multiple-choice questions. UGC NET Exam Pattern will consist of details related to the UGC NET 2022 exam mode, the number of questions asked, sections, marking scheme, and more.

Old Exam Pattern

You should know that till November 2017, UGC NET in International and Area Studies consists of three papers, i.e. paper-1, paper-2, and paper-3. Paper-1 was general and compulsory for all subjects, and paper-2 and paper-3 were based on International and Area Studies.

However, from June 2018, UGC NET in International and Area Studies consists of only two papers, i.e. paper-1 and paper-2 (merging the previous paper-2 and paper-3 into the current paper-2).

So, you are requested to go through the previous paper-2 and paper-3 to better prepare themselves for the current paper-2 in International and Area Studies.

UGC NET examination in International and Area Studies was conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) till June 2014. From December 2014 to June 2018 UGC NET exam was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

NTA started to conduct the exam from Dec. 2018 onwards.


NTA UGC NET International and Area Studies Cut off

NTA releases the UGC NET International and Area Studies Cut-Off marks after the declaration of results.

You have to obtain the minimum cut-off marks to get selected in the merit list. The merit list will be prepared category-wise and subject-wise for each subject.

Only the top 6% qualified candidates will be considered for the Junior Research Fellowship program.

NTA UGC NET International and Area Studies How to Apply

Following are the complete details candidates need to know regarding the UGC NET 2022 application form:

  • The Application form has been released through online mode.
  • Candidates can fill the application from 30th April 2022.
  • The details filled by the candidates in the application form should be same as it appears in their 10th mark sheet, any alteration in the details can cause rejection of application form.
  • Candidates must fill the application forms as per the given instruction in the information brochure.
  • The application form must be filled before the last date of submission as no candidates are allowed to submit the application form after the prescribed date.
  • The last date of submission of application form is till 30th May 2022.
  • Candidates are advised to keep the printout of filled application form and fee receipt for future references.
