About IES Exam

UPSC ESE IES 2023 Notification is out! The conducting authority has announced the UPSC ESE 2022 Interview dates.IES Exam or UPSC ESE exam is a national-level exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit engineering graduates. The commission conducts the ESE IES exam each year for major branches, namely Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics Telecommunications.

Two stages (Prelims and Mains) of the UPSC ESE exam are offline to shortlist the candidates. The Preliminary exam is an objective paper, while the main is a conventional paper. Candidates who qualify for both Prelims Mains will be eligible to participate in the final round. The last phase of UPSC ESE IES is followed by the interview process, which is the toughest stage due to the higher competition.

IES Eligibility

Candidates who want to appear for the UPSC IES Exam 2023 should make sure that they are eligible for the post. The application of candidates can be forfeited at any point of time during the selection procedure if it is found that they do not fulfil the necessary criteria to hold a post in UPSC Engineering Services. 

The eligibility criteria of UPSC IES  2023 includes education qualification, age limit, and nationality has been listed below. 

Educational Requirements:
  • Candidate must have completed his Bachelors in Engineering (B.E) or Bachelors in Technology(B.Tech) from a University that has incorporated by an Act passed by the government of India or other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities by University Grants Commission Act, 1956; or
  • A Degree or Diploma from a foreign University in Engineering recognised by the Government of India; or
  • Candidates should have qualified for the Graduate Membership Examination held after November 1959 of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London. 
  • Candidates must have cleared the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers(India) both sections A and B; or
  • Candidates should have passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or
  • Should have qualified Parts II and III of the Associate Membership Examination or Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or

Age Limit

Candidates must have a minimum age of 21 must not have attained the age of 30 years on January 1, 2022, to appear for this examination.
 

Nationality 

Candidates must be 

  • A citizen of India OR
  • The subject of Nepal OR
  • The subject of Bhutan OR
  • A refugee from Tibet who migrated to India before 1 January 1962
  • People of Indian origin came from Burma, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Tanzania or Vietnam.

All the candidates (apart from Indian citizens) aspiring for a post through the UPSC IES Exam should have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India in their favour.

IES How to Apply

  1. Visit UPSC recruitment website at upsc.gov.in
  2. Click on the online recruitment link for UPSC Examinations. You will be directed to a new page.
  3. Click on ‘Click here for Part-I’ next to the Engineering Services (Preliminary / Stage I) Examination column.
  4. A new page with the necessary instructions to fill the form will appear. Read the instructions carefully and then click on ‘Yes’. A new page will appear.
  5. Enter the details that have been asked and upload the necessary documents.
  6. Click on ‘Submit’ and repeat the same process for Part-II registration. It is necessary that candidates fill both the Part I and Part II form. Only then the registration of the candidate will be completed.
  7. Candidates should then move on to pay the application fee.
  8. Once the application fee is paid, the application of the candidate will appear on the screen. He/she can download it for future reference.

Application Fee

Candidates are required to pay UPSC IES application fee of INR 200. Female candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Persons with Disability are exempted from paying any fee.
