TOEFL 2024 Exam

The premier English language proficiency test, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The TOEFL exam is administered using the computer-based TOEFL iBT format. The alternative paper-delivered method can only be used in locations lacking an internet connection. The TOEFL iBT test syllabus, which gauges each of the four communication skills - reading, listening, speaking, and writing—is preferred by educational institutions. The TOEFL exam is approved for employment and immigration purposes as well as for entrance to more than 11,000 colleges and institutions in 150 different countries. The computer-based test is administered more than 60 times annually and can be taken at designated testing centers. The availability of test dates and testing sites can be checked by candidates before registering for the TOEFL 2023 exam. 

After the test date, a TOEFL test score is valid for two years.  TOEFL 2023 is currently accepting registrations around the clock. Furthermore, bear in mind that there are no prerequisites for taking the TOEFL exam; rather, candidates must achieve the minimal TOEFL score requirements, both sectional and overall, established by the school to which they are applying.

You will also get an option to choose the timings of the TOEFL exam. You can choose a morning, afternoon, or evening slot. When you register for the TOEFL test, you will have to provide authentic identification information. This information should match the identification document you will be carrying on your exam day (which is a passport in the case of Indian applicants). Make sure you spell your name exactly as it appears on your passport.

In this section, the candidate will be required to read 3-5 passages and answer 12-14 questions on each passage. The section is scored based on the number of correct reading comprehension responses.

In this section, you will hear short conversations as well as long conversations. After the short conversation, you will be asked one question and multiple choices of answers will be given. You have to choose one answer. In long conversations, you will be asked multiple questions based on the conversation.

Question type: a) 3–4 lectures (3-5 minutes long, about 500-800 words), 6 questions each; About 30 questions in total
b) 2–3 conversations (about 3 minutes long, about 12-25 exchanges), 5 questions each; About 12 questions in total

Total time: 41–57 minutes
 

For you to earn the highest scores in the Speaking Section, your responses must fulfil the demands of the task given with only minor mistakes or lapses. The test graders are looking for a highly intelligible and sustained conversation. There are three main factors that comprise scoring for the section.

b) 3 integrated tasks – Read/Listen/Speak (prep time: 30 sec; response time: 60 sec)

The essay should effectively address a topic. The response should be well-organized and well-developed using relevant explanations and detailed support. Furthermore, it should also display unity, progression, and coherence. If you want to achieve a high writing score, make sure that you demonstrate syntactic variety and appropriate word choice with minor grammatical errors.

The most common and commonly used TOEFL exam by institutions is the computer-based iBT version. The less prevalent paper-delivered test is only provided in areas where internet testing is not an option. TOEFL exam pattern 2023 is explained below:

1. Mode of exam - The TOEFL test is administered in computer-based mode, known as TOEFL iBT Test. A paper-delivered mode is also available but only for locations where the internet-based test is not available.

2. Sections - Four sections: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

3. Duration - Approximately 3 hours, with each section to be allotted a fixed time.

4. Break: There is a 10-minute break after the reading and listening section.

TOEFL Exam Pattern 2023

In 2023, there are three ways to sign up for the TOEFL: Using an ETS account, online, on the phone, or by mail.

Online registration is the most preferred way because it is the quickest and most practical. The TOEFL 2023 registration period is open every day of the week, 24 hours a day.

The procedures for signing up for the TOEFL iBT Test are as follows.

Step 1 - Step one is to create an application account.

1. You can create a candidate account by giving personal information such as your name, birthdate, and gender. 

2. Then, include your home and mobile phone numbers along with a valid email account for correspondence. The applicant will also need to set up an account by supplying a username and password.

Step 2 - Choose a testing site and a date in step two.

1. The TOEFL iBT test will be administered more than 60 times annually at designated testing centres. To choose a convenient test date and test location, click the TEST CENTRE search bar.

2. Select a 2-month window after picking a location to take the test in.

3. The two-month period may include any consecutive two months (say, January - February, February - March, March - April, etc.)

4. Based on the choices made, a list of possible test dates and related test centres will be displayed on the screen.

Decide who or what organization will receive your TOEFL scores when they become available. Up to four universities may be selected for free, with the exception of the exam fee. But to add more institutes, a fee of US$20 per institute has to be paid.
