The University College of Engineering was established in 2000, at the Kariavattom campus and is directly managed by the University of Kerala, with the motive of becoming a model institution for technical education in the State. The college has also served as a model in several matters including the fee structure. Ever since its inception, the college has maintained a high level of academic performance and in the last three years, the students of the college have secured at least one top position each in the B.Tech examinations.
